Most of the images are taken from this website (for Hindi books, English novels can be checked on English Wikipedia like Harry Potter), and those which have no source information are eligible for deletion—in which images are tagged with {{nsd}}, uploader is notified, and after one week they can be deleted without giving any further warning/message. — Bill william compton^Talk 21:41, 12 अक्टूबर 2011 (UTC)

Files without a license

Hi! All or most of these files विशेष:UncategorizedFiles do not have a license but is protected so I can't edit them. I wanted to add a "no license" tag/category. Mass Bot import of templates

User:RajeshBot का प्रयोग कर के 1500 से अधिक साँचे बिना समुदाय से बातचीत किये और बिना स्रोत url दिये अंग्रेज़ी विकिपीडिया से कॉपी पेस्ट किये गए हैं(देखें Special:Contributions/RajeshBot)। यह साँचे सभी अंग्रेज़ी नाम के हैं। इन साँचों को ऐसे कॉपी करने से इन सब के लाइसेंस गलत होते हैं(Attribution is not in place)। साथ ही मेरे विचार में इन साँचों की यहाँ कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है। अतः अनुरोध है कि इन साँचों को जल्द-से-जल्द हटाया जाए। मैं ne विकिपीडिया पर इस बॉट के संचालक को इस वार्ता की कड़ी प्रदान कर रहा हूँ ताकि वे ऐसा करने का अपने कारण यहाँ रख पायें। साथ ही अनुरोध है कि विकिपीडिया:प्रबंधक सूचनापट का सुरक्षा स्तर घटाकर autoconfirmed कर दें ताकि प्रबंधक वर्ग से सम्बन्धित वार्ता इस पृष्ठ पर हो सके। जहाँ तक मेरी जानकारी है, यह पृष्ठ प्रबंधकों को किसी बात से अवगत कराने के लिये है, अतः सभी सदस्यों को इसे संपादित कर इसमें विषय जोड़ने की अनुमति होनी चाहिए। धन्यवाद--सिद्धार्थ घई (वार्ता) 21:43, 2 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

Siddhartha Ghai जी आप का सुझाव सही है। वे सभी हिन्दी विकी में अति आवश्यक साँचे थे जो Special:WantedTemplates में दर्ज थे । (These templates were listed in the Special:WantedTemplates. राजेश जी, मैं मानता हूँ कि ये साँचे Special:WantedTemplates पर थे, परंतु इसका ये अर्थ नहीं कि ऐसे सभी साँचे अंग्रेज़ी विकिपीडिया से लिये जाएँ। यह बात सभी जानते हैं कि हिन्दी विकिपीडिया पर कई लेख अंग्रेज़ी लेखों के मशीनी अनुवाद हैं, और ये सभी कोई बहुत अच्छी हालत में नहीं हैं। ये अंग्रेज़ी साँचे मुख्य रूप से इन्हीं लेखों पर प्रयोग होते हैं। यदि ये साँचे Special:WantedTemplates में थे, तो वे इन्हीं लेखों में कमियों के कारण थे, अतः हमें ऐसे लेखों को ढूंढ कर उनमें से ऐसे साँचों का प्रयोग हटाना चाहिए अथवा ऐसे साँचे हिन्दी विकिपीडिया पर स्वयं बनाने चाहियें(हिन्दी नाम और हिन्दी सामग्री के साथ)। यदि हम इसी प्रकार सिर्फ़ मशीनी अनुवाद जोड़ते रहें और साँचे कॉपी करते रहें तो हिन्दी विकिपीडिया की गुणवत्ता के स्तर का क्या हाल होगा? साथ ही, यदि आप en:Special:WantedTemplates देखेंगे तो पायेंगे कि वहाँ बी भी बहुत से साँचों की आवश्यकता है, परंतु उन्हें बॉट का प्रयोग करके नहीं बनाया जाता बलकी सदस्य स्वयं उन्हें बनाते हैं। अतः, मेरा अनुरोध है कि इन साँचों को कॉपीराइट की समस्या के कारण हटा दिया जाए और फिर जिन लेखों में इन साँचों का प्रयोग है, उन्हें सुधारा जाए। भले ही ये मुश्किल मार्ग है, परंतु सोना आग से गुज़ेर के ही कुंदन बनता है। हमें भी हिन्दी विकिपीडिया पर उसी प्रकार मेहनत करनी होगी, चाहे उसमें समय ही क्यों न लगे।--सिद्धार्थ घई (वार्ता) 16:01, 3 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

@Sid, It is controversial that Copy paste from one wiki to another is copyvio.However it depend on Community whether they want for such kind of situation.In case of en wiki and hi wiki there is no general consensus over this.

@Rajeshpandey, Siddharath just said that such a huge automated addition should be done after getting community consensus.if Community has no objection then you can just do your task.However don't bother i shall delete these all templates if required. It still depend on local community however Importing will not disturb such Policy as it show original user name in History but directly copy & paste violate this policy that's why i advised rajesh to use importing those pages rather than copy paste directly through bot.Still I am confused for applying this policy for Hindi wiki it will be better if bill can also give his opinion--Mayur ^{(talk•Email)} 18:18, 3 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

There are few things I'd like to clarify regarding the license policy of Wikipedia: all the text (including under namespace like template, category, etc) is released under CCA-SA 3.0, which requires attribution—even if it is copied or transferred from Sister Wikimedia Project (the Wiki jargon of the moment is "terms of use"). If strictly following CC licensing and United States Copyright Law, CC licenses require users to attribute the original creator(s) of a work, unless the creator has waived that requirement or asked that his/her name be removed from an adaptation or collection. So, IMHO transferring templates like this require attribution to original creator(s), and WMF has suggested a few handy ways for this, like using {{interwiki copy}} template. And, Mayur there can't be any possible "general consensus" for this, because it'd violate CC policy of Wikimedia. Yes, need of attribution may not be required for template if it contains entirely different content (or translated) because rest is just Wiki markup coding.

Now about the usability of these bulk templates on Hindi Wikipedia. As Sid said above, these templates are mostly used in machine translated articles (or in articles of Google Project), a usual procedure in which people just—without giving adequate attention—copy whole text from English Wikipedia articles, and leave many red-links (like categories, templates, interwikis, etc); but these red-links certainly don't need copy/paste method, so in simple words "we don't need them here". Rajesh, your rationale that "All of these templates had at least two links from the articles" is also not endurable, e.g. {{Tourism}} has only one link which is on ट्रैवल एजेंसी—a Google translated article. Mayur, "it [doesn't] show original user name in History" [sic] (does it?). Thanks Sid, Mayur and everyone for taking it positively. Originally the intention was to save users from the hectic work of copying the wiki jargon, styles and formatting that exist in templates. A normal user might get frustrated by a red link in an article and there are thousands of such wanted templates that are available in enwiki. Among those templates, some are translated, some are used as-it-is like the php-programs which come with the mediawiki software(obviously lot of folks worked day and night for it, and we should give credits to them), and we have become rich by adopting those templates. Its like the languages, the more words we take in a language, the more richer we become example Glass to Paper, shirt and pant, and a lot many. Templates are midway between the mediawiki software and the general text. Any user can create a template and put a programming logic inside it. The programmers use it as the building blocks and try to reuse it. At most places people write ifelse braces left and braces right, parameters and stuffs that a new user may not understand while an advanced user understands it(at most cases). Its a mystery for another user : what exists inside a template, untill he does not test the template himself or read the template documentations very carefeully. We can work on the shortcomings in the Wanted-Templates. At the end all the effort is for the betterment of the wiki. If these templates are really harmful may be we should delete them. May be mass copying is not so good, because it might be dreadful at some instances. May be we feel insecure about the bots. No doubt human editors are better than bots and bots are meant to serve humans. May be we should delete the poor articles with those templates. The community can flag the articles that are poor in quality, as they are being done everyday as in the articles in Category:Delete. All the possibilities below are possible. Thanks to the mediawiki software, all the edits can be reverted, deleted or edited. The solution to the the red links of the templates (that have been staying there for long) in the articles might be : 1) by deleting the article 2) deleting the template link 3) creating the template properly by fixing all the links. Just clarifying once again, Rajesh. Copying templates using bots is not ok if you don't provide the source attribution, because that violates the WMF terms of use and implies copyright violation. Source attribution is a must, which is missing in the bot transfer of templates.

If this attribution had been present, then it would have been up to the community to decide whether or not to keep these templates. But, without the attribution, we are (legally) bound by the Terms of Use to delete these templates(We don't have a choice in this).

So next time you wish to import ,either use Special:Import; or if you do use a bot; get it to at least add a summary like: "copy from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/template:xyz&oldid=1234567890". Note that a permanent link to the page is required, not a simple page link, since that can change. Hope this clears the problem with these imports.--सिद्धार्थ घई (वार्ता) 21:39, 5 नवम्बर 2011 (UTC)

Useless protection of pages

Mayur, I'm concerned that many pages are edit protected for no use. This is a misuse of page-protection privilege, like why on this earth प्रवेशद्वार:तमिल नाडु/चयनित जीवनी is edit protected if it never had any history of persistent vandalism. These type of pages hinder me from doing my work, like I needed to replace the redundant image in this page with one on Commons after deleting चित्र:CVRaman.jpg but I couldn't do that because page is edit protected even for auto-confirmed users. Files nominated for deletion

Hi! I have a list of files nominated for deletion here: सदस्य:MGA73/Sandbox. Perhaps you can help me translate the text? My idea is to inform all the uploaders that one or more of their files are nominated for deletion and give them the list. I have problems adding a notice with my bot because of the "funny" letters :-D - if you have a solution or can fix it with your bot it would be super. If not I'll add the notices manually.
