ब्रिटिश विदेशी प्रदेशों की अवस्थिति

ब्रिटिश विदेशी प्रदेश (अंग्रेजी: British Overseas Territories), संयुक्त राजशाही के वो चौदह प्रदेश हैं, जो वैसे तो संयुक्त राजशाही का एक हिस्सा नहीं हैं पर इसके अधिकार क्षेत्र में आते हैं। यह वो प्रदेश हैं जो ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य के समय से ही ब्रिटेन के आधीन हैं और इन्हे आज तक या तो स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त नहीं हो पायी है या फिर इन्होने खुद ही ब्रिटेन का हिस्सा बने रहने के लिए मतदान किया है। ब्रिटिश राष्ट्रीयता अधिनियम 1981 (अंग्रेजी: British Nationality Act 1981) के अनुसार इन प्रदेशों को "ब्रिटिश अधीन क्षेत्र" नाम दिया गया था जिसे ब्रिटिश विदेशी प्रदेश अधिनियम 2002 (अंग्रेजी: British Overseas Territories Act 2002) के द्वारा बदल कर ब्रिटिश विदेशी प्रदेश कर दिया गया। 1981 से पहले, इन प्रदेशों को किरीट उपनिवेश या किरीटोपनिवेश (क्राउन कालोनी) कहा जाता था।

ब्रिटिश अंटार्कटिक क्षेत्र, जहाँ पर कोई स्थायी निवासी नहीं हैं, और साइप्रस के संप्रभु सैन्य अड्डों के अलावा, सभी विदेशी प्रदेशों में स्थायी आबादी है। इन सभी क्षेत्रों का सामूहिक भूमि क्षेत्र 1728000 वर्ग किमी (667,018 वर्ग मील) और जनसंख्या लगभग 260,000 है। ब्रिटिश अंटार्कटिक क्षेत्र, चार अन्य संप्रभु राष्ट्रों और उनके अंटार्कटिक क्षेत्रों के साथ हुए एक पारस्परिक मान्यता समझौते का हिस्सा है। ब्रिटेन अंटार्कटिक संधि प्रणाली में एक भागीदार है।

जर्सी, ग्वेर्नसे, और आइल ऑफ़ मैन जैसे क्षेत्र, हालांकि ब्रिटिश राजशाही की संप्रभुता के अंतर्गत आते हैं पर इनके साथ संयुक्त राजशाही का एक अलग संवैधानिक रिश्ता है, और इन्हें किरीटाधीन क्षेत्र कहा जाता है। ब्रिटिश विदेशी प्रदेश और किरीटाधीन क्षेत्र राष्ट्रमंडल के उन देशों से अलग हैं जिनमें से ज्यादातर कभी ब्रिटिश साम्राज्य का हिस्सा थे।
