English: The Karneshwar Mahadeo temples complex is located on the west bank of Mahanadi river in Sihawa, Dhamtari district. The complex is a collection of five 12th-century temples. They are attributed to Raja Karna Deva, the Somvamshi ruler of Kanker State.
The Karnesvar temple complex has a square plan with phamsana and Nagara-style sikhara. They illustrate the simpler form of South Kosala temple architecture, yet a fusion of ideas from Telugu and Odiya culture. The artwork here is simpler and much eroded than other parts of Chhattisgarh, likely because of the choice of the stone used to make these temples.
The main temple in this complex is dedicated to Shiva, while others are dedicated to Vishnu and Devi (Durga) traditions. The artwork here includes Hindu river goddesses, Ramayana and Mahabharata themes. The Karneshwar temple is an active Hindu temple, attracts Ram Lila, Krishna Lila and other festival celebrations.
