कालिदास एच॰ एम॰ रेड्डी द्वारा निर्देशित १९३१ की एक भारतीय तमिल तथा तेलुगु भाषा की जीवनी-आधारित फिल्म है, जिसका निर्माण अर्देशिर ईरानी ने किया है। यह तमिल और तेलुगु भाषाओं की पहली सवाक फ़िल्म होने के साथ-साथ किसी दक्षिण भारतीय भाषा की भी पहली सवाक फ़िल्म होने के लिए उल्लेखनीय है। संस्कृत के कवि कालिदास के जीवन पर आधारित इस फ़िल्म में पी॰ जी॰ वेंकटेशन ने शीर्षक भूमिका का, और टी॰ पी॰ राजलक्ष्मी ने प्रधान महिला भूमिका का निर्वहन किया है, जबकि एल॰ वी॰ प्रसाद, थेवरम राजमबल, टी॰ सुशीला देवी, जे॰ सुशीला और एम॰ एस॰ संतनलक्ष्मी ने अन्य सहायक भूमिकाओं को निभाया है।

मुख्य रूप से तमिल में बनी कालिदास में तेलुगु और हिंदी में भी अतिरिक्त संवाद हैं। राजलक्ष्मी ने अपने संवाद तमिल भाषा में बोले, जबकि वेंकटेशन ने तमिल भाषा में अपनी धाराप्रवाहिता की कमी के कारण केवल तेलुगु भाषा में संवाद बोले, और प्रसाद ने केवल हिंदी बोली है। पौराणिक विषय पर आधारित होने के बावजूद, फिल्म में बाद के समय की अवधि के गीतों का प्रयोग किया गया, जिनमें कर्नाटक संगीतज्ञ त्यागराज की रचनाएं, भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के प्रचार गीत और महात्मा गांधी और भारतीय स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन से संबंधित गीत भी शामिल थे। जर्मन निर्मित तकनीक का उपयोग करके फ़िल्म के लिए ध्वनि को रिकॉर्ड किया गया था। कालिदास को बॉम्बे में भारत की पहली साउंड फिल्म, आलम आरा (१९३१) के सेट पर शूट किया गया था, और इसका फ़िल्मांकन आठ दिनों में पूरा हुआ।

कालिदास को ३१ अक्टूबर १९३१ को दीपावाली के दिन उच्च अपेक्षाओं के साथ रिलीज किया गया था। यह उस वर्ष निर्मित और रिलीज़ हुई एकमात्र दक्षिण भारतीय फिल्म थी। कई तकनीकी खामियों के बावजूद, इसे राजलक्ष्मी के गायन प्रदर्शन के लिए प्रशंसा के साथ-साथ आलोचनात्मक प्रशंसा और एक बड़ी व्यावसायिक सफलता मिली। फ़िल्म की सफलता ने कवि कालिदास पर आधारित कई अन्य फिल्मों को जन्म दिया, जिनमें महाकवि कालिदास (१९५५), महाकवि कालिदासु (१९६०) और महाकवि कालिदास (१९६६) शामिल हैं।
