फर्मा का अंतिम प्रमेय

संख्या सिद्धान्त में फेर्मा का अंतिम प्रमेय (Fermat's Last Theorem) के अनुसार शून्य के अतिरिक्त a, b तथा c कोई ऐसी पूर्ण संख्याएँ नहीं होतीं जो समीकरण

aⁿ + bⁿ = cⁿ -- (१)

को संतुष्ट करें। जहाँ n, दो से बड़ी कोई पूर्णसंख्या हो; किंतु फेर्मा ने इसकी उपपत्ति नहीं दी। यह प्रमेय सन् १६३७ में दिया गया। बाद में n=4 के लिए फेर्मा ने समीकरण (१) की उपपत्ति दी। 1770 ई. में लेनर्ड आइलर ने n=3 के लिए समीकरण (१) की अपूर्ण उपपत्ति दी। इसके दूटे हुए चरणों को बाद के गणितज्ञों ने पूर्ण किया।
