व्यक्तिगत जीवन
व्यक्तिगत जीवन (personal life) किसी व्यक्ति के स्वयं के जीवन का कुछ समय अथवा अवस्था के लिए काम में लिया जाने वाला शब्द है। विशेषतः इसमें उन व्यक्तिगत रुचियों को शामिल किया जाता है जो सम्बंधित व्यक्ति की व्यक्तिगत पहचान में योगदान हो।[1]
शिकार-संचय के अतिरिक्त मानव बहुत पहले से अपनी आवश्यकतायें पूर्ण करने लग गया था जिसमें भोजन और निवास की पूर्ति कृषि से हो जती थी; अवकाश समय अपर्याप्त था।[2] लोग अपने समुदाय में अपनी सामाजिक भूमिका से पहचाने जाने लगे और व्यक्तिगत पसंद के स्थान पर आवश्यकता के आधार पर गतिविधियों में संलग्न हुए। ऐसे समुदायों में निजता बहुत विरल थी।
"व्यक्तिगत जीवन" की आधुनिक अवधारण आधुनिक पाश्चात्य सभ्यता से विकसित हुई है। आधुनिक लोग अपने कार्यक्षेत्र को व्यक्तिगत जीवन से अलग करके देखते हैं और कार्य-जीवन संतुलन की चाह रख सकते हैं।[3]
