कापटाइन का तारा (Kapteyn's Star) M1-श्रेणी का एक लाल उपबौना तारा है। यह पृथ्वी से लगभग 12.76 प्रकाशवर्ष दूर है और पृथ्वी की सतह से देखे जाने पर पिक्टर तारामंडल के क्षेत्र में नज़र आता है। यह हमारी गैलेक्सी, क्षीरमार्ग, के गैलेक्सीय सेहरे का भाग है और हमारे सौर मंडल ले लिए उस सहरे का सबसे समीपी तारा है। इसका व्यास हमारे सूरज के व्यास का 30% है लेकिन इसकी तेजस्विता हमारे सूरज की तेजस्विता की केवल 1.2% है। सन् 2014 में इसके इर्द-गिर्द दो ग्रह परिक्रमा करते पाए गये। इनका नाम कापटाइन बी (Kapteyn b) और कापटाइन सी (Kapteyn c) रखा गया, और दोनों ही महापृथ्वी की श्रेणी में आंके गए।[10][11][12]
ग्रहीय मंडल
[संपादित करें]इस तारे के दो बहिर्ग्रहों का ब्योरा इस प्रकार है। सम्भव है कि इसके मंडल में एक तीसरा ग्रह भी हो लेकिन उसका अस्तित्व अभी प्रमाणित नहीं हुआ है।
