श्रीवास्तव (हिन्दुस्तानी उच्चारण: [ʃɾiːʋaːstəʋ]; Śrīvāstava) श्रीवास्तव हिन्दू धर्म का एक कायस्थ कुल है भारत के हिन्दीभाषी हिंदुओं में पाया जाने वाला एक सामान्य उपनाम है।[1][2]

उत्पत्ति[संपादित करें]

श्रीवास्तव, चित्रगुप्तवंशी कायस्थ के बारह उप-कुलों में से एक हैं, जो परंपरागत रूप से शासन, प्रशासन और सैन्य सेवाओं में शामिल थे। भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में वैदिक काल , मध्यकालीन हिंदू और इस्लामी साम्राज्यों के दौरान इस कुल के लोग प्रभावशाली थे, तथा लाला और कायस्थ जैसे शीर्षक अर्जित करते थे।[3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]

व्युत्पत्ति[संपादित करें]

श्रीवास्तव शीर्षक, श्रीवास्तव्य का संक्षिप्त रूप है[11] अर्थात जिसमे श्री का वास हो।[12][13] अन्य व्याख्या के अनुसार, "श्रीवास्तव" नाम की उत्पत्ति "श्रीवास्तु/सुवास्तु" से हुई है, जो स्वात नदी का प्राचीन नाम है। उसे ही इस वंश की उत्पत्ति का स्थान कहा जाता है.[14]
