Hi. I have been learning the Devanagari script.
But I do not have a lot of Hindi vocabulary.
Can you say your message again?
@Varlaam: In His message he requested you to share your thoughts on Hindi Wiki-Conference here.
Thanks for the additional information.
I am still enjoying reading my textbook on Hindi. Hindi script is much easier than Urdu script!
After studying Hindi for 3 weeks, I can read "विकिपीडिया".
iv ik pee id ya
I learned Persian script 20 years ago, but I think Hindi is easier than Urdu.
I don't know how you learning Devnagari but "विकिपीडिया" will be read like this vi kii pee di yaa because all things above horizontal lines are half-vowels, they should be pronounced after consonants starting with व.
Of course, certainly.
I am just indicating that in Devanagari the short vowel 'i' is written before the consonant.
So we write "iv" and read it as "vi".
It's a good system. Not too difficult.
Yeah it's a good system and pretty useful too, after you learned it you will be able to read Marathi, Rajasthani, Maithili, Chattisgarhi, Bodo, Nepali, Nepal Bhasa, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Dogri and sometimes Punjabi, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Urdu, though you may not understand them.

Piyush Morya, how could you forgot Sanskrit?☺☆★संजीव कुमार (✉✉) 07:59, 22 मई 2014 (UTC)[उत्तर दें]

Yeah Sanjeevji, i forgot Sanskrit.
How can you guys forget Sanskrit?!?! Just kidding.
I have a Sanskrit-English dictionary at home which I can now read a little bit.
I studied Latin for 5 years, and a little Ancient Greek so I am interested in Sanskrit too.
I learned to read Arabic script in 1991, and Persian a little later. But I find Urdu is really really complicated.
I understand the complexity of Urdu better after studying a little Hindi. I can now see what Urdu is trying to do.
But the Arabic-Persian script is not a good choice for Hindustani. Devanagari is 100 times better for the sounds of Urdu and Hindi.
It is nice talking to you fellows.
Have a happy Canada Day! (That is July 1.) Maybe I will have a Kingfisher beer from India for Canada Day.
Yeah that Urdu complexity also applies to other Indo-European languages who using a Semitic script particularly western Punjabi (Punjabi spoken in Pakistan). All Indian scripts (and there is more than dozens!!) are well suited to Indo-Aryan languages (though they also do excellent job for Dravidian languages, Austroasiatic languages and Sino-Tibetan languages) , they are designed and modified for them. Whereas Urdu and other Pakistani languages using a imprecise script for the sake of religion. By the way isn't 1 July far away?
