नूरिस्तान (फ़ारसी: نورستان‎, अंग्रेजी: Nuristan) अफ़्ग़ानिस्तान का एक प्रांत है जो उस देश के पूर्व में स्थित है। इस प्रान्त का क्षेत्रफल ९,२२५ वर्ग किमी है और इसकी आबादी सन् २००२ में लगभग १.१ लाख अनुमानित की गई थी।[1] इस प्रान्त की राजधानी पारून (پارون‎) शहर है। इस प्रान्त की सरहदें पाकिस्तान से लगती हैं। यहाँ के लगभग ९५% लोग नूरिस्तानी हैं।

इतिहास और लोग[संपादित करें]

१८९० के दशक तक नूरिस्तान को नहीं जाना जाता था | इस इलाक़े के नूरिस्तानी लोग इस्लाम की बजाए एक हिन्दु-धर्म से मिलता-जुलता धर्म रखते थे।[2] १८९५-९६ में अफ़्ग़ानिस्तान के अमीर अब्दुर रहमान ख़ान ने आक्रमण कर के यहाँ क़ब्ज़ा जमा लिया और उसी समय इस इलाक़े का नाम बदलकर 'नूरिस्तान' (यानि 'प्रकाश का स्थान') रख दिया गया।[3][4]
