तोमान (ईरानी मुद्रा)

तोमान (फ़ारसी: تومان, अंग्रेज़ी: Toman) ईरान की मुद्रा (जिसका नाम 'रियाल' है।) की एक महा-ईकाई को कहते हैं। 'तोमान' शब्द मंगोल भाषा के 'तुमेन' शब्द से लिया गया है, जिसका मतलब 'दस हज़ार' होता है। सन् १९३२ तक ईरान की तोमान मुद्रा में १०,००० दीनार हुआ करते थे।[1] १९३२ में तोमान हटाकर रियाल ईरान की मुद्रा बन गई और १ तोमान = १० रियाल के दर से पुरानी मुद्रा बदल दी गई। फिर भी आम लोक-भाषा में ईरानी लोग १० रियाल को एक तोमान कहते हैं और क़ीमतों के बारे में तोमानों में बाते करते हैं। यह इसी तरह है जिस तरह भारत-पाकिस्तान के लोग ५० पैसे को 'आठ आने' कहते हैं हालांकि अब इन देशों में औपचारिक रूप से 'आना' नमक मुद्रा नहीं है।
अक्सर ईरान जाने वाले पर्यटक तोमानों के इस्तेमाल से परेशान हो जाते हैं, क्योंकि किसी भी चीज़ पर लिखी क़ीमत को वह रियाल में समझते हैं, जबकि वह तोमानों में होती है। पैसे देते हुए अपेक्षा से दस गुना अधिक दाम देने से बहुत से सैलानी हैरान होते हैं।[2]
